You got the syntax wrong:
GET http://www.linux.org/ HTTP/1.0<enter><enter>
But squid comes with such a client...called - imaginatively - client.
It's probably installed in the same directory as your squid binary:
${PATH}/client http://www.linux.org/
Run it without arguments to see how to set proxy hosts and ports (it
defaults to localhost:3128)
