If this are FTP downloads, try the binary download icon at the rigth of
the directory listings. Some Windows browsers are known to be confused
by Squids default setting of presenting unknown files as binary
textfiles.

.ttf is not known by the default mime.conf file.
.doc is known and should work.
One workaround which should work for most people is to change the
default (.) mime.conf rule from text/plain to application/octetstream.
