_strange_ configuration (more info)

sorry... forgot one important bit of info the first time i posted this...
the wan line from B to A _will_not_ carry trafic destined for the outside
world, so when the outside line at B is down, any non-wan hosts are
unreachable... no packet will be routed B->A->internet

== original post ==

i have a client who wants a proxy configured in a pretty unusual way, and
the only solution i can think of involves some _really_ ugly redirector
stuff... hopefully someone knows of an easier way to do this...

there are 2 sites, A and B (the proxy goes at B)
A has permanent connectivity to the outside world, and already has a squid
running to service users there
B has cheap, fast, but intermittent outside connectivity (and no upstream
proxy to make requests to)
B also has a slow but reliable wan link to A

the gist of it is that the proxy at B should preferentially service _EVERY_
request directly from the origin server unless the outside line is down
(the origin server is unreachable) at which point it should fall back to
accessing the proxy at A over the wan line as a parent

if there was a way of specifying "this request's origin server" as a
generic parent it would be easy, but as i said, the only solution i've
managed to come up with involves some voodoo that i just don't like the
looks of...

any sugestions??

russell
