aloha all,
i run redhat 5.2 and i tried squid 1.1.22 and 2.1, binary distributions
and compilled myself - when starting squid it fails starting dnsserver:
i send the cache.log per attachment.
i already tried what the faq suggests - dnsserver does work when run manually
by nobody:nobody. i also tried replacing dnsserver by a script which touches
/tmp/dns, but after waiting 15 min and several messages about dnsserver not
being able to start properly there was still no /tmp/dns, so i suppose that
squid does not even start /usr/local/squid/bin/dnsserver although the permissions were correct and it worked manually.
after an installation on my pc at home (debian 2.0) i got it working properly
after 15 minutes, unfortunately i cannot change the distribution as i have
to give an intoroduction on configuring squid this thursday.
