Actual value IP address?

I had a user report the following..

The number in the URL is the decimal representation of the IP address.
Squid thinks it's a DNS name and attempts to look it up, when it fails
it returns the error. He can access the site by going arround the cache,
and the Linux kernel can handle the format fine. Ping works. Is there a
workarround for this admitedly odd way of typing an IP address?
