Nope, that's not a lack of memory:

[root@xyz ~]# free
             total used free shared buffers cached

Swap: 232928 128 232800

Squid eats only 56MB of it.

Problems with fork and squid's "Cannot allocate memory" disappear as
soon as I kill the process.
