File descriptors

I applied filehandle_patch_linux_v8.01 to kernel 2.0.34 specified in FAQ t
increase the number of file descriptors to 1024 but the kernel fails to
compile. Does any one know of any site from where I can get the patch and
compile the kernel successfully.
