xmalloc error?

I have been running Squid for only a short time on BSDI, in proxy mode.
After running for a couple of days I get the following error in my
cache.log file, after which squid stops running.

FATAL: xmalloc: Unable to allocate 8192 bytes!

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to correct this issue? I have plenty
(512megs) or RAM.
