Re: different malloc.c ???

dlmalloc is commonly used by MUDs, MUSHes, Genesis, and is available as
an option in the more recent versions of squid. While not _necessarily_
ideal for general-purpose use, it seems to do a very nice job on the
sort of allocation patterns these kinds of software have.
