Short answer: Yes, much has changed.
Longer answer: Squid 1.2 still seems to exhibit a few (slightly) rabid
tendencies around persistant connections, specifically around redirects
and errors that have content bodies.
Accordingly, I'm not yet _quite_ ready to let it loose to more than a
couple, highly-technical users, 'cause I _know_ it does some things
wrong.

As above. I think that it went away at all was more an artifact of the
problem, and not a solution.
