MS document http://www.microsoft.com/kb/articles/q142/8/81.htm says:
"Internet Explorer caches the password information in the
<Username>.pwl file. However, because the Microsoft Client for
Microsoft Networks handles all password caching, the password cannot
be cached and the option is not available if the Microsoft Client
for Microsoft Networks is not installed."
If you disable password caching (ie usage of .PWL files) completely
as described in http://www.microsoft.com/kb/articles/q140/5/57.htm
Win95 & MSIE should not cache the passwords any more. I haven't test
this, but it's easy to give it a try. With MS network (local NT
servers) it works fine (tested), but with MSIE I cannot say yet.
BTW, the latest Squid is 1.1.14 and acl_proxy_auth patch is available
for it as well. See http://www.IAEhv.nl/users/devet/squid/proxy_auth/
The patch expands Squid proxy_auth administration amazingly ! We use
it too.
