Yes. All browsers I know of support his. In both netscape and MS IE
there is separate configuration entries for HTTP, GOPHER, WAIS, FTP and
SSL proxies (In MS IE you have to deselect a box that tells MS IE to use
one proxy for all procols. Quite obvious if you look at the proxy
settings).
Unix based browsers (without built-in proxy configuration) does this by
different environment variables (http_proxy, ftp_proxy and so on)
