Well, nntp: type URL's aren't handled in a compatible
way by browsers - .. they are parsed by the browser
which does its own nntp reader stuff
So, it's not really a job for squid. Most people would prefer to
run news and web caches on different machines.
Hope isn't lost, though - .. there is a package which
does exactly what you want. It's called nntpcache, and
you can get it from ftp://ftp.nntpcache.org/pub
(if you have a hard time fetching the code, let me know...)
