I've set up this line in squid.conf, and it works:

cachemgr_passwd password_here squid.conf

"stats/netdb" option doesn't work for me... :-?
And, BTW, "shutdown" option ALWAYS works, with or without the correct
password... !!! bug or feature? ;-)

My squid: version 1.1.0, Linux 2.0.27
