Just a guess:

1) Maybe its using to much memory (RAM) ->swapping (check with proctool ???).

2) Check, whether you have ToolTalk enabled and TT_DB's are corrupted (In this
   case, inetd forks rpc.ttdbserverd again and again - Ultra1: about 400 times
   per minute - , which slows down the machine and ...)

3) Check /var/adm/messages for lines like ".*last\ message\ repeated.*times"
   Maybe that other processes are slowing down your machine...
