Can the Squid cache use a DOS (8x3) partition?

I just downloaded Squid and noticed its default cache size of 100MB.
Assuming I want to use something like that I can either distribute it over
multiple directories or put the entire cache in the nearly unused DOS
partition on my BSDI machine.

Can Squid use a DOS partition with all of its limitations (8x3 filenames, no
concept of a user, case-insensitivity)?
