hungry squid ?

Well I finally have squid beta 7 running :) But it sure is hungry :(
My system load went from .02 to .26
here is the output form the ps command

The top two ftpgets started about 9 hours ago when I did my first ftp.
The 2nd two ftpgets started just now when I tried another ftp.

Is this normal ?
should the ftpgets hang around after the ftp is finished ?
