ftpget trouble with socket

Hi,

For every request for a ftp:// URL, I get from cache.log:

comm_connect_unix: /var/tmp/ftpget017803: socket failure (2)
No such file or directory.

When I look at /var/tmp, that file does not exist. Who
is responsible for creating that socket file?

I'm slogging through the sources now, but any help is
appreciated.
