cache replacement policy not being honoured?

In squid.conf on 2.7 (as well as 2.6 AFAICT);

cache_replacement_policy heap GDSF

but with squidclient mgr:storedir, I get

Removal policy: lru
LRU reference age: 6.83 days

What's the story here? No complaints in cache.log.
