I have a humble suggestion for compromise to get STABLE2 out now rather
than later:

Include the Samba 2.2.7 headers, as these will work with the majority of
OS versions that are up to date on their errata. Earlier versions have
security bugs, and so will not be in use on any system that is
well-maintained. 2.2.8 doesn't exist yet. I can't say whether this
works with 2.2.7a, but I would hope it would. If folks are running CVS
checkouts of devel versions of Samba, they ought to know how to patch.
If necessary due to frequent problem reports, I'll be happy to modify
the FAQ to indicate this decision and its reasons.
