Most are only destroyed at squid exit. I submitted a patch here to allow
earlier destruction (because I was happily causing squid to SEGV on
shutdown if pools where destroyed earlier :] ).
You might want that patch applied :]

On the other note, to see how memPoolDestroy() works I put a breakpoint
on it, and I can't get it triggered. Is any pool actually ever
destroyed
in squid? When?
